Universities in UAE Accepting GMAT: Complete List for Indian Students
Out of the 15 leading MBA-granting universities in the UAE with a published, program-level admissions policy, only two make GMAT (or an approved equivalent) mandatory: American University of Sharjah and S P Jain School of Global Management's Dubai campus. One more, American University in Dubai, lets you choose between a GMAT score and an admissions interview. Two others, University of Birmingham Dubai and Amity University Dubai, accept GMAT as an optional addition to a profile built mainly on academics and work experience. The remaining ten don't factor GMAT into admission at all.
That's the real picture, and it's worth sitting with, because most roundups of "MBA colleges in Dubai" repeat a version of "most universities require GMAT/GRE" without checking a single admissions page. They don't. If you're an Indian student weighing an MBA in the UAE, here's exactly where a GMAT score is required, where it helps, and where it changes nothing.
Every policy below was checked directly against each university's own admissions page in August 2026. Admissions criteria do shift between intakes, so treat this as a snapshot rather than a permanent rule, and confirm directly with the university before you finalize any application decision around it.

Zayed University, Middlesex University Dubai, and Hult International Business School's Dubai campus don't publish a program-level GMAT policy on their official sites, so they're left out of this table rather than guessed at.
Where GMAT Is Genuinely Mandatory
- American University of Sharjah.Every MBA applicant submits either a GMAT score or AUS's own MBA Admission Test. AUS sets no minimum score for either; the test result is read alongside your academic record rather than screened against a cutoff.
- S P Jain School of Global Management, Dubai campus.The Global MBA here requires a standardized test, and you have four to choose from: GMAT, GRE, CAT, or S P Jain's own SPJAT. (NMAT is accepted for S P Jain's MGB and GCGM programs, not for the Global MBA; S P Jain's own admissions page and its formal admission policy document disagree slightly on this point, and the policy document, being the more specific and authoritative of the two, is what this article follows.) GMAT and GRE scores must be within five years of your application; CAT and SPJAT within two years. The minimum expected scores, set out in S P Jain's Postgraduate Admission and Selection Policy, are GMAT 650, GRE 320, CAT in the 80th percentile, or SPJAT 50%. The test is one input alongside a case analysis, essay, and interview, and candidates below these thresholds can still be considered for an interview at the Director of Admissions' discretion.
Focus Edition scale note: S P Jain's published policy document is dated April 2020, before GMAT switched to the Focus Edition's 205–805 scale in 2023. A score of 650 refers to the older 200–800 scale. Since GMAC states the two scales aren't directly convertible, applicants relying on this figure should confirm the current equivalent expectation with S P Jain's admissions office directly rather than assume a like-for-like match on the new scale.
Where GMAT Buys You an Advantage, Not a Requirement
- American University in Dubai.No GMAT score is not a dead end here. AUD's MBA Admissions Interview is a built-in substitute. Applicants without a score can be conditionally admitted and asked to submit one by the end of their first term, or clear the interview instead. Two years of work experience is the credential AUD actually weighs most.
- University of Birmingham Dubai.GMAT isn't required. The admission bar is three years of professional experience minimum (five is typical among admitted candidates) with demonstrated managerial or budget responsibility. A GMAT score, if you have one, gets factored in as supporting evidence.
- Amity University Dubai.Admission runs on a 3.0 CGPA bachelor's degree and English proficiency (IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 550). A GMAT or GRE score from within three years is optional and, in Amity's own words, "can strengthen the application."
Where GMAT Plays No Role at All
Ten universities admit MBA students on academic record, English proficiency, and (in several cases) work experience or an interview, with no GMAT or GRE requirement anywhere in their published criteria: Murdoch University Dubai, BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai, University of Wollongong in Dubai, Canadian University Dubai, British University in Dubai, Ajman University, Abu Dhabi University, University of Dubai, and IMT Dubai.
BITS Pilani Dubai and IMT Dubai lean on a personal interview as the deciding factor once the GPA cutoff is met. The rest are GPA-and-English-score admissions: typically a 3.0 CGPA (on a 4.0 scale) and IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550, with work experience requirements ranging from none (Manipal, Canadian University Dubai, BUiD) to one year (Ajman) to two or three years (UOWD, IMT Dubai).
Required, Alternative, Optional, Not Required: What Each Actually Means
- Requiredmeans every applicant submits GMAT or an approved substitute test as a non-negotiable part of the file. Only AUS and S P Jain's Dubai campus work this way.
- Alternative pathwaymeans GMAT is one of two acceptable routes into the program, the other being an interview or equivalent assessment. AUD is the clearest example.
- Optionalmeans the standard admission criteria don't mention GMAT, but a score you already hold is read as supporting evidence. Birmingham Dubai and Amity Dubai both work this way.
- Not requiredmeans GMAT doesn't appear anywhere in the published admission criteria, and decisions are made on GPA, English proficiency, work experience, and interviews alone.
The GMAT Numbers That Actually Matter
The exam itself is now the GMAT Focus Edition. Total scores run 205–805 in steps of 10, with Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights each scored separately on a 60–90 scale. This replaced the older 200–800 scale, and GMAC is explicit that scores from the two formats aren't directly comparable. Percentile ranking is the fair basis for comparison, not the raw number.
A GMAT score is valid for five years from your test date. That's the same five-year window S P Jain's Dubai campus applies to GMAT and GRE submissions.
GMAT Focus Edition is delivered in person at test centers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and also as an online proctored exam. GMAC's standard global registration fee, corroborated by multiple independent test-prep sources since mba.com's own pricing page requires selecting a country to display a figure, is USD 275 for the test-center exam and USD 300 for the online version. That converts to roughly AED 1,010 and AED 1,100 at the fixed USD-AED exchange rate. mba.com applies country-specific taxes on top of this base rate through its own registration flow, so treat these as close working estimates and confirm the final AED charge at the point of registration.

Deciding Whether You Need GMAT for a UAE MBA
If American University of Sharjah or S P Jain's Dubai campus is on your shortlist, GMAT (or an approved substitute) is not optional, so build your timeline around it. If American University in Dubai is the target, a GMAT score gets you in without the interview step, but skipping GMAT doesn't close the door. For every other university on this list, a GMAT score changes nothing about your eligibility; the admission decision runs on your GPA, English scores, and work history. In that case, take GMAT only if you want a stronger paper trail for scholarship consideration or a competitive edge within the applicant pool, not because any of these universities will turn you away without one.
